Lupin, inspired by the adventures of the Gentleman Thief Arsène Lupin, has won over audiences worldwide since its first season. Its blend of wit, elegance, and action has pushed the series to the top of the Netflix charts, making it one of the most-watched French productions on the platform. The show’s strength lies in the magnetic performance of Omar Sy and in its ability to combine Lupin’s classic spirit with a modern narrative. Since its debut, Lupin has reached record-breaking numbers, becoming the most-watched non-English language series on Netflix at launch. Its first three parts rank respectively in third, sixth, and tenth place in the all-time chart, drawing a vast and passionate international audience.

Part 1 alone registered over 70 million views in its first weeks. This success hasn’t slowed down: Part 3 confirmed its position at the top of the global charts, cementing its status as a cult series.
In the first season, we met Assane Diop, a man determined to avenge the injustice suffered by his father. Through spectacular heists and ingenious strategies, Assane takes inspiration from Lupin to expose the corruption of the powerful Hubert Pellegrini. The second season delved deeper into their rivalry, with Assane forced into hiding and struggling to protect his family, culminating in an explosive, suspense-filled finale. The third season, on the other hand, focused on a more vulnerable Assane, struggling with the weight of his past actions and trying to reconnect with his family.
WARNING, SPOILERS (for those who haven’t seen season 3): in the third season, a mysterious letter and a photo from his childhood suggest that Assane’s past may come back to haunt him. Meanwhile, we see Assane steal the Black Pearl, fake his own death, and save the life of his mother, with whom he had lost contact. All this happens before he realizes that the only way to guarantee a safe and peaceful life for his family is to sacrifice himself: he turns himself in to the police. Part 3 ends with Assane behind bars: all we can do is hope that his time in prison won’t last long.
Lupin 4: what do we know? Preview
In Lupin Part 3, after pulling off extraordinary heists and foiling his enemies’ plans, Assane faces a new personal challenge: protecting his family from afar. The fourth season could explore Assane’s return from the shadows of prison, with a likely escape orchestrated with his usual mastery. The dynamics behind bars and the renewed conflict with Pellegrini promise gripping developments. In addition, the story may delve deeper into Assane’s origins, revealing new secrets about his family and the mystery behind Pellegrini’s revenge.

The cast
Lupin is created by George Kay in collaboration with François Uzan, with contributions from Marie Roussin, Florent Meyer, and Tigran Rosine. Sy andLouis Leterrier are the writers, as mentioned above. The main characters are expected to return, so let’s go over the full cast from previous seasons:
Omar Sy: Assane Diop is the series’ protagonist. As a teenager, his life is turned upside down when his father, Babakar, is wrongfully accused of stealing a valuable necklace belonging to the Pellegrini family and dies in prison. Twenty-five years later, inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, Assane becomes a gentleman thief with the goal of avenging his father and exposing the Pellegrinis’ crimes. He uses his charisma, skill at disguise, and brilliant mind to orchestrate complex cons and heists, always one step ahead of his opponents.
Ludivine Sagnier: Claire Laurent is Assane’s ex-wife and the mother of his son, Raoul. She has known Assane since they were teenagers and, despite their separation, a deep bond remains between them. Claire works in a hospital and tries to maintain a stable life for herself and Raoul, often worried about Assane’s risky activities and the impact they could have on their family. Her loyalty and affection for Assane are clear, even though she is torn between wanting to protect her son and the feelings she still has for him.
Antoine Gouy: Benjamin Ferel has been Assane’s best friend since school days. He runs an antique shop and often helps Assane with his illegal ventures, providing logistical support and drawing on his knowledge of art and valuable objects. Their friendship is marked by deep trust and complicity, with Benjamin serving as confidant and partner in Assane’s elaborate schemes.

Hervé Pierre: Hubert Pellegrini, played by Hervé Pierre, is the series’ main antagonist. A powerful and ruthless businessman, he is the head of the Pellegrini family. He is responsible for the imprisonment and death of Babakar Diop, having framed him for the necklace theft. Pellegrini is willing to do anything to maintain his power and reputation, using corruption and intimidation to eliminate anyone who stands in his way. His influence stretches across multiple sectors, making him a formidable adversary for Assane.
Creator George Kay, in a recent interview with Variety, stressed that Lupin was conceived as a show with a narrative structure designed to last over time. George Kay also explained that the relationships between the characters were built so they could be further developed, creating “a solid foundation for future seasons”, adding that he laid ambitious groundwork that allows for a potential extension of the story.
When will Lupin 4 be released on Netflix?
