The announcement marks a key moment in the awards calendar, setting early momentum for titles likely to shape the wider international conversation in the months ahead.
The ceremony — hosted for the second consecutive year by Nikki Glaser — is expected to function not only as a celebration of the year’s standout achievements, but also as a bellwether for how bold, globally minded productions are being received. That broader outlook is reflected in the Best Motion Picture – Drama lineup, which also includes titles such as Hamnet and A Simple Accident, underscoring the Golden Globes’ continued openness to ambitious, internationally oriented storytelling beyond any single platform.
Del Toro’s Frankenstein earned additional recognition across key creative categories, with nominations for Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and composer Alexandre Desplat, alongside a directing nod for del Toro himself. The film represents his fourth Golden Globe–recognized project, following Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, and Pinocchio, reinforcing his long-standing relationship with the awards body and his consistent presence at the highest level of international cinema.

Films nominated
According to the official lists, leading the nominations is One Battle After Another, with as many as nine nods, ahead of films such as Sinners and Sentimental Value. The Golden Globes are even more “golden” this year thanks to the 3 nominations for KPop Demon Hunters. The song played all over the world, “Golden”, has been nominated for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture, and the film has also earned spots in the categories Best Animated Motion Picture and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. In the Musical or Comedy category, Nobody Wants This is competing against non-Netflix productions such as Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Only Murders in the Building and The Studio.
Actors nominated: the odd Clooney/Sandler duo
Back to the Netflix field: George Clooney, star of Noah Baumbach’s film Jay Kelly, has received his 14th Golden Globe nomination, after winning three times for his performances in The Descendants, Syriana and O Brother, Where Art Thou?. His work in Jay Kelly has been praised alongside that of co-star Adam Sandler, who is also nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
The TV series
On the TV series front, the race for the statuettes is just as competitive. The White Lotus remains among the most-nominated productions, but another hugely successful series (technically a miniseries) is forcefully entering the fray: after triumphing at the 2025 Emmys in September, Adolescence continues its awards run with 5 nominations. Owen Cooper, the young actor at the center of the crime drama, has earned his first Golden Globe nomination. Actors Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty are also nominated.
Other series that have received nominations include The Diplomat with Keri Russell, the thriller The Beast in Me with Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, the new season of Black Mirror, and the romantic comedy Nobody Wants This, which has also earned nominations for actors Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.
First-timers
This year’s group also includes several first-time nominees, among them Jacob Elordi from Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, singer-songwriter and artist Nick Cave, Charlie Hunnam from Monster: The Ed Gein Story, Rashida Jones from Black Mirror and Kevin Hart for his comedy special Kevin Hart: Acting My Age. The directors of KPop Demon Hunters, Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang, have also received their first major recognition, as has the team of songwriters behind “Golden”: EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam (IDO), Jeong Hoon Seon (24) and Park Hong Jun (TEDDY).
The Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026. In the United States it airs at 8:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 a.m. in Italy (Italian time), since the time difference between Los Angeles and Italy means the event falls on the night between January 11 and 12.
