Emily in Paris 5

Among Netflix December releases, Emily in Paris 5 is one of the most anticipated. Vespa ready and helmet fastened, Emily swaps Parisian streets for Italian sunshine, stepping back into the spotlight. With so much of the fifth season filmed in the Eternal City, it could almost be called Emily in Rome. Venice also makes an appearance, adding even more Italian charm to the story after several key events in Season 4 were already set in Rome.

Season 5 is almost here, bringing Emily Cooper back with a mix of romance, fashion, and new adventures. After the success of Season 4 — and a finale that sparked countless online theories — fans are eager to see where her life leads next, now split between Paris and Rome. Here’s everything you need to know about Emily in Paris Season 5 — from the plot and cast to release date and trailer.

Darren Star’s series continues to reinvent itself by leveraging new locations, new cast additions, and an increasingly international tone. The arrival of Marcello, the Italian atmosphere, and a change of scenery that also touches Venice, promise a season full of European charm, emotional contrasts, and new professional dynamics. The global success of the fourth season — with 19.9 million views in the first four days and a presence in the Top 10 in 93 countries — confirms that Emily in Paris has all the cards to reinvent itself without losing its essence.

After four seasons along the Parisian boulevards and aperitifs by the Seine, Emily Cooper moves to Rome for a new professional assignment: opening a branch of the Grateau Agency in the heart of the Italian capital. Waiting for her, however, are not just ancient temples and monumental fountains, but also Marcello, heir to Italian fashion with whom Emily weaves a new and intense relationship. But the title remains the same: Emily hasn’t abandoned the Ville Lumière, she’s just broadened her horizons.

“Marcello is a completely different adventure for Emily because, ultimately, we want Emily to have a better work-life balance,” she says. “We want Emily to be able to smile unconditionally. We want to see her out of her vacation mode. And he arrives at the perfect time.”

Lily Collins at TUDUM

Lily Collins returns as Emily, increasingly international and divided between two iconic cities. Alongside her, we’ll see again Lucas Bravo, Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, and Lucien Laviscount.

The season’s new addition is Eugenio Franceschini playing the charismatic Marcello. Behind the creative machinery is still Darren Star, who takes the series towards a broader dimension, exploring Europe with a sensitive eye on aesthetics and cultural identity.

  • The series rides the trend of rom-coms set in iconic cities, a very strong genre on Netflix.
  • The introduction of an Italian lead has generated social hype, especially after photos from the Rome set posted by Lily Collins.
  • The Emily–Gabriel–Marcello love triangle has fueled fan discussions for months.
  • The Italian setting is one of the most awaited points after the brief glimpses in season 4.
  • The pre-Christmas release is strategic: it’s one of the platform’s strongest periods.

Is it based on a true story?

No. Emily in Paris remains a fictional series created by Darren Star. However, the fifth season draws inspiration from the contemporary lifestyle between Paris and Rome, integrating fashion, creative work, and European pop culture.
